Western Cheer Team Brings in Guest Choreographer Lamar Holmes to Elevate Nationals Routine

The Western Oklahoma State College cheer team is turning up the energy and refining their routine for the upcoming NCA College Nationals with the help of an industry veteran. Lamar Holmes, an experienced cheer coach, former national champion, and current member of the New Orleans Saints Cheer Krewe, has been invited to lend his expertise and creative flair to the team's performance.

Holmes, who previously competed and won at NCA College Nationals with the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), brings a wealth of knowledge from his 20-year coaching career. His experience spans competitive cheer, sideline performances, and professional-level choreography, making him an invaluable asset to Western as they prepare for the prestigious national competition.

A dynamic force in the cheer world, Holmes currently serves as the head coach at L.B. Landry High School in New Orleans, where he inspires young athletes both in the classroom as a World Geography teacher and on the mat as their cheer coach. His leadership and passion for the sport led him to the professional ranks, where he now performs with the Saints Cheer Krewe—one of the pioneering NFL teams to include men in their cheerleading squads. Holmes credits his students for motivating him to take his skills to the next level, proving that perseverance and self-belief can open new doors.

With NCA College Nationals fast approaching, the Western cheer team is eager to absorb Holmes' expertise. His innovative approach to choreography, focus on performance quality, and deep understanding of the competitive cheer landscape will help the team refine their stunts, elevate their crowd appeal, and execute a routine that stands out on the national stage.

"We're beyond excited to have Coach Holmes working with us," said Macee Shelton, second year Western cheerleader. "His energy, creativity, and experience are exactly what we need to take our performance to the next level. Having someone who's been in our shoes and won at this level is really inspiring."

Holmes' visit is expected to bring not only technical adjustments but also a renewed sense of motivation and confidence to the squad. As a coach who has juggled teaching, high school coaching, and professional cheerleading, he understands the demands of balancing athleticism, artistry, and determination—values that he aims to instill in the Western team.

As the countdown to NCA College Nationals continues, Western Cheer is ready to showcase the results of their hard work and Holmes' expert guidance. With a national champion and professional performer in their corner, they're setting their sights on making a lasting impression on the competition floor.
