January Basketball Recap: A Month of Ups and Downs for Western Oklahoma State College

The Western Oklahoma State College women's basketball team experienced a month filled with both triumphs and challenges, securing key wins while also facing tough competition. Here's a look at the highlights from January:

January 13th: Victory Against NOC Enid (72-61)
The team started the month strong with a 72-61 home victory over NOC Enid. Leading the charge was Aaliyah Young, who delivered an impressive double-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks. Tazhia Watson also contributed a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Additional contributions came from Taylor Montgomery (8 points), Kam, Aby, and Rey (6 points each), Audrey (4 points), and Joi (2 points). Madi helped control the boards with four rebounds. The team executed its defensive game plan effectively, securing a solid conference win at home.

January 20th: Tough Loss to NEO (71-49)
Facing a strong NEO squad, the team fell 71-49 on the road. Despite the loss, Tazhia Watson stood out with another double-double, recording 18 points and 14 rebounds. Taylor Montgomery added 13 points, while Aaliyah Young contributed 8 points and 7 rebounds. Reydon Salazar chipped in with 6 points, Barger added 3 points, and Malicoat scored 1 point.

January 23rd: Dominant Win at EOSC (81-45)
Bouncing back in style, the team delivered a commanding 81-45 victory on the road against EOSC. Taylor Montgomery led the scoring with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Reydon Salazar added 15 points, while Joi Chapple made a strong impact with 13 points. Allye Haile and Audrey Cline each contributed 7 points, rounding out a well-rounded team performance.

January 30th: Close Battle Against Seminole Ends in Defeat (72-63)
Closing out the month, the team fought hard but fell short in a competitive 72-63 matchup against Seminole. Aaliyah Young led with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Abygale Mashaney and Taylor Montgomery each scored 12 points, while Tazhia Watson added another double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Reydon Salazar also contributed 11 points in the effort.

As the season progresses, the team looks to build on its successes and learn from its challenges, with the goal of finishing strong in conference play.
